Laura Lucas Announces Debut Album “There’s A Place I Go” + Shares New Single “The Atlantic”

June 6, 2025 BY Emma Orland

Canadian-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Laura Lucas today announces her long-awaited debut album, There’s a Place I Go, arriving November 14 via Nettwerk. Alongside the announcement, she shares her new single “The Atlantic”, a delicately powerful reflection on childhood memories, emotional distance, and inner healing.

Produced by Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads, Maple Glider, Lisa Mitchell) and recorded in London, the album marks a striking evolution in Laura’s sound – blending indie folk intimacy with expansive, atmospheric layers that elevate her deeply personal songwriting.

There’s a Place I Go,” Laura says of the album’s title, “refers to thinking of creative expression as not just something one does, but a place that you go to – a sort of retreat from the rest of the world. I wanted to call my first album this to honour what songwriting means to me, and to remind myself that that ‘place’ is the core of what I’m doing and why I make music in the first place.”

On new single “The Atlantic”, Laura traces the edges of a childhood road trip on Canada’s east coast — the colourful towns, the red sands of Prince Edward Island, the haunted houses – but it’s the emotional landscape that lingers. The track swells with gentle guitars and a hazy indie-folk atmosphere, holding space for some of Laura’s most vulnerable lyricism to date.

This really is a song for my inner child,” she shares. “I found so much healing in writing the lyric ‘I was a kid.’ It’s a simple phrase, but it flicked a switch in my brain and helped me release a lot of misplaced shame.”

There’s a Place I Go follows Laura’s 2023 EP The Dreamer and a run of celebrated collaborations, including “When The Fire Started” with Israel Cannan, “I Imagine You Are Happy” with Lawson Hull, and “A Quiet Heart Is An Unused Heart” with Ciaran Lavery. Earlier this year, she began unveiling the album through singles “Reincarnation Song” – an existential, hopeful meditation on life’s cycles – and “Did The Mountain Change You?”, a softly aching track about holding onto hope that’s no longer yours.

With each release, Laura has continued to expand her sonic world while deepening her emotional palette – weaving together reflections on identity, longing, womanhood, and the quiet courage of self-acceptance.

Early support has come from Spotify, Amazon Music, and tastemaker outlets like The AU Review, GRRRL Music, ParaPOP, Niche Music, and Uranium Waves. Her songs have landed on Spotify’s juniper, Coffee Break, Fresh Finds AUNZ, and Apple Music’s Breaking Singer-Songwriter playlists, while her previous EP charted at #2 on Apple Music’s Breaking Acoustic chart across 29 countries.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, and now based in Melbourne, Laura Lucas’ writing is shaped by distance, memory, and growth – her storytelling often balancing sharp detail and raw vulnerability with open-ended wonder. As she found her way toward this debut album, she was shaped by some of life’s big shifts, and now she hopes these songs serve as a quiet reminder that there is strength in softness, and that sensitivity can be a superpower.
