July 21, 2023 BY Jason Currell

Indie-folk storytellers Laura Lucas and Lawson Hull have come together to craft a delicate, heartfelt ballad full of warmth and nostalgia. “I Imagine You Are Happy” sees the pair team up for the first time, as they reflect on wanting the best for someone who is no longer in your life. You can listen to the track HERE.

Produced by Dustin Tebbutt, the sparse production of the track makes for an intimate listening experience, allowing the earnest lyrics, poetic songwriting, and delicate vocals of the two storytellers to draw you in.

On creating “I Imagine You Are Happy”, Laura says, “This is one of my favourite songs I’ve written so far. For me, it perfectly captures how the passing of time can give you a new perspective on past relationships.”

Lawson continues, “We kept it simple. Laura and I both have cozy, warm voices and we let them do their thing.”

ABOUT LAURA LUCAS:

Canadian born and raised and now based in Australia, Laura Lucas fell in love with storytelling from a young age. Her introspective songwriting is charmingly delivered by delicate vocals and dreamy instrumentation rooted in a warm, modern take on the indie-folk genre. Laura’s ability to captivate listeners and distill complex emotions through song has earned her comparison to some of music’s biggest names including Lana Del Rey, Phoebe Bridgers, and Taylor Swift. Laura’s debut EP Light the Candle, Hold the  Mirror (2022) was produced remotely between Canada and Australia, the five tracks that make up the EP collectively telling the story of how the two places have shaped who she is and where she’s going. She followed the EP with recent single “Wake Up, Breathe In”, the first from her forthcoming EP The Dreamer.

ABOUT LAWSON HULL:

Describing himself as “an Aussie take on Tom Petty, but half as good”, Lawson Hull’s modesty does little to conceal his immense musical and lyrical talent. Warm, atmospheric, and spacious, Lawson’s music oozes comfort and places him amongst Australia’s greatest contemporary indie folk voices: think Angus and Julia Stone, Boy and Bear and #1 Dads. The Newcastle-based artist merges fascinating prose with cinematic production and artful songcraft across his catalogue, that includes 2021 EP Hangin’ Out with Cowboys, 2023 EP Mountain Days, and team ups with Hein Cooper, Old Sea Brigade, and more. Mountain Days was written while Lawson was isolated in nature, sharing memories from living on a little mountain in the Watagan Ranges of New South Wales.
