Last Dinosaurs Announce Initial Transmission: RYU + Share the Otherworldly “Walking on Ice”
October 6, 2023 BY Emma Orland
Today, the Australian indie-rock trio Last Dinosaurs announce their initial “transmission” titled RYU, due out November 10th via Nettwerk, featuring seven songs penned by Sean Caskey, including recent single “Afterlife,” and the newest release “Walking On Ice,” out now. The song carries an apocalyptic undertone with sci-fi-leaning lyrics and spacey guitars. Listen on all digital retailers (here).
Sean elaborates on “Walking On Ice” saying: “It was sonically inspired by the 2002 movie 24 Hour Party People, particularly the music playing at the factory club. Lyrically, it’s about being despondent but fearless like a ticking time bomb in the meaningless void of space… I was envisioning futuristic cowboys, like Cowboy Bebop.”
“Walking On Ice” and “Afterlife,” ushering in an exciting new era for The Dinos as they unveil a cryptic release to fans who have already begun digging for more clues. Some on the band’s Instagram guess that the name RYU comes from Sean’s Japanese middle name “Ryusuke,” while others on the band’s Discord believe there’s a larger story at play…
Since their 2022 LP, From Mexico With Love, Last Dinosaurs have basked in the critical acclaim from Rolling Stone Australia, NME, FLOOD, FLAUNT, and Under the Radar, while headlining around the world to bigger rooms and even more ravenous crowds. Now they’re in the midst of a fast-selling U.S. co-headlining tour alongside Vacations, dubbed ‘TOURZILLA.’ See the complete list of tour dates below and find more details at https://www.lastdinosaurs.com/home/.
