September 10, 2021 (Los Angeles, CA) — Today, 16-year-old artist KALI, full name Kali Flanagan, shares a remix of the track “Lucy,” a song off her debut EP CIRCLES, out now via Nettwerk Records. Remixed by Gentle Dom, the new moniker for MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden, this version of KALI’s song adds a psychedelic and dancey twist to the longing love song. The remix arrives ahead of KALI’s show with Carwash on September 17th at Baader House in Los Angeles.

“Psyched to remix this excellent pop song from Kali. I thought it was fun to repeat the line “Lucy, talk to me” – Gentle Dom

CIRCLES, which Alternative Press called “a window into the emotions as well as the artistry of a precocious young talent” and features the celebrated tracks “Someone to Hold,” “I Just Wanna,” “Lucy,” and “Back to the Start,” marked KALI’s emergence onto the scene after being named an artist to watch in 2021 by NYLON earlier this year. A recognized musical talent from a young age, she plays a majority of the instruments on the project herself, with additional production from Miro Mackie (The Neighbourhood, St. Vincent, Wallows) and Daniel Chae (of Run River North). The EP synthesizes KALI’s own experiences as a teenager, and those of her friends via stories and recorded voicemails, into a cohesive body of work centered around her own self-discovery.

More About KALI:

A prodigy of sorts, KALI grew up playing recitals and covering Beatles songs, taking private lessons with music teachers, going to after-school music programs, and even taking songwriting masterclasses to nourish her passion. In 2017, KALI assembled her first band, Big Wednesday. Intuitive and eager, she taught herself how to use Garageband and began writing and demoing songs that she would later teach her bandmates for their shows. Their relatable and honest indie-surf arrangements drew sweaty, teenage crowds to local venues like The Smell and The Viper Room and would lead her to her new solo work as KALI, whose debut project is out now.

What the press is saying about KALI:

“CIRCLES is, simply, one of the most remarkable debuts you will hear all year” – V Magazine

“a woozy, irresistible swirl of obtuse guitar riffs straight out of a ’90s alt-rock haze” – Billboard

“scrappy but jubilant indie rock that’s some of the most exciting we’ve heard lately” – NYLON

“her timeless songwriting and the emotional depth of her lyrics feel as if they come from an older soul” – Pigeons & Planes

“Flanagan establishes herself as a bombastic, angelic bringer of dreamy melodies” – Under The Radar
