April 15, 2016 BY Nettwerk

Justin Time Records and Nettwerk Jazz & Blues announce the launch of “Justin Time Essentials Collection” with releases from three key Justin Time catalogue artists – Muddy Waters, Oscar Peterson and Diana Krall – all available on vinyl for the first time with beautifully restored collectable artwork.

Rare recordings of Muddy Waters’ Hoochie Coochi Man – Live at The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club and Oscar Peterson’s Tenderly (with Herb Ellis & Ray Brown) will be released on Record Store Day (April 16).

Diana Krall’s Stepping Out, featuring a previously unreleased bonus track of “Summertime,” will be released for the first time on vinyl on May 6.

Digitally remastered versions of all three titles will be available across digital service providers as well. More on each release can be found below:

Muddy Waters – Hoochie Coochie Man – Live at The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club

Recorded in January of 1977 at Montreal’s legendary Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club, the record features some of Muddy’s greatest bandmates, including Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson and “Steady Rollin’” Bob Margolin on guitar, Jerry Portnoy on harmonica, Pinetop Perkins on piano, along with Calvin Jones on bass and Willie Smith on drums. The standout track is an 11-minute version of the classic, “Kansas City,” with Muddy sharing vocals with Perkins. This rare recording captures the raw and electric intensity of the small club with Muddy’s commanding voice front and center.

Oscar Peterson with Herb Ellis & Ray Brown – Tenderly

Recorded in the summer of 1958 at the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver, and featuring the Oscar Peterson Trio (with bassist Ray Brown and guitarist Herb Ellis), the set finds the group in top form, featuring a simmering treatment of “Alone Together” and a pristine take of “My Funny Valentine.” The trio delves into rarely heard original material, including Peterson’s lovely “Music Box Suite” (also known as “Daisy’s Dream”).

Diana Krall – Stepping Out

Stepping Out launched the career of one of our generation’s greatest Jazz artists. The Justin Time Essentials Collection introduces her debut album to a new generation of fans, but this time with an added bonus track from the original sessions – Diana’s incredible arrangement of “Summertime.”
