John Butler Trio Shares Official Music Video “Just Call” + North American Tour Dates
September 17, 2018 BY Nettwerk
“The [“Just Call”] video finds this masterful guitarist daringly revisiting one of his favorite places on the planet as this rhythmic tune plays out its sweet love story” – Parade
“Butler is a road warrior. Battle-hardened, but enlightened from decades on the go. It’s this unusual ride which gave life to the new project…On it, Butler explores new channels of sound. The LP represents a “genuine creative leap,” with flourishes of electronic and hip-hop production and another dive into his deep well of folk and blues.” – Billboard Magazine
Today, Australia’s bestselling independent artist of all time, John Butler partners with Parade Magazine to premiere the final installment in a 3-part video series for album track “Just Call” (forthcoming album HOME out September 28 via Nettwerk Records).
Directed by Nick Mckk, produced by longtime collaborator Kester Sappho and filmed in one continuous shot, the video begins where the second one, “Wade in the Water” leaves off – Butler and son Jahli skateboarding through the streets of rural Australia. The first video for the title track “Home” addressed the tenuous balance between life on the road and being away from family, while the second chapter, “Wade In The Water” captured the uninhibited feeling of being home and being grounded. The latest video is about celebrating home and the connection from generation to generation. Filmed in Graveyards, Pinjarra Australia, where John grew up from the ages of 11-20, sees John scaling a sky-high tree…and then leaping from the top, something he often did as a kid.
“This is another one of my favorites. It’s an unabashed love song about meeting my partner, Danielle Caruana, in the romantic and red dirt drenched country of the Kimberley in a town called Broome. This is also one of the best videos I’ve ever made. So simple yet fairly complex to get just right. I did the jump about 6 times on a winters day in the flood waters of the Murray River in Pinjarra, Western Australia, where I grew up from 11-20 y/o. I LOVE this part of the world. I grew up on this river and it became one of my best friends. scurfed it, swam it, jumped outta trees into it, explored abandoned farmhouses along her banks and generally lived out a ‘Huckleberry Finn’ existence on this river – What a blessed wonderland to grow up in. I’m a lucky man to have had this country teach me and hold me through the ups and downs of my formative years. This location is ‘Graveyards’ It’s legendary to the kids and locals of Pinjarra. I hope you enjoy it tooI,” says Butler.
Fans who’ve seen a John Butler Trio gig over recent months – including the recent sold-out show at Denver’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre – have already been treated to sneak previews of some new songs. Following the album’s release, the band will perform the new album to audiences in Australia, Japan, Europe and North America (see dates below).
The John Butler Trio is guitarist/vocalist John Butler, bassist Byron Luiters and percussionist Grant Gerathy. For the upcoming tour, percussionist and vocalist Lozz Benson and keyboard/ vocalist Ben Corbett will join the Trio.
