Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow returns with his brand-new single “Cowboys of Los,” This latest release continues an exciting chapter in his career, “Backfire (Better with James” in collaboration with Wild Rivers, “Rent California,” “Sunburn,” and “Glu.”  Fans have been eagerly following McMorrow’s evolving sound, particularly since the release of his seventh studio album, Wide open, horses, last June.

McMorrow has long been known for his evocative songwriting, blending introspective lyricism with rich, textured instrumentation. With “Cowboys of Los,” he once again taps into raw emotion, offering listeners a deeply personal reflection on change, loss, and the simple joys that often go unnoticed.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, McMorrow shares:

“Everything I’m writing now comes from a place of missing a lot of things that until recently I took for granted and didn’t value like I should have. I realise that life as it exists now,  it’s made me lose so much of my humanity and what I liked about myself, what made me actually work. I want that humanity back, so I’m singing about nuance, about simple things, appreciating small things like standing in the snow with someone you love. Hopefully through singing about small things and about finding joy in them, some of it will return. I’m also just standing in front of a mic and singing, no bells or whistles, the song has to be worthwhile because I’m not giving myself space to hide anymore.”

James has beckoned listeners to open their minds and hearts since his emergence in 2010. He gathered over 1 billion streams across an expansive catalog along the way. Among many standouts, “Higher Love” went BPI Gold in the UK and ARIA platinum in Australia. His cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” soundtracked the trailer for Season Six of HBO’s Game of Thrones and generated over 130 million Spotify streams on its Live At Killkenny Arts Festival version. Toppling charts, 2016s We Move notably debuted at #1 in Ireland. At the same time, he lent his voice to “Hype” from Drake’s multiplatinum blockbuster Views, “I’m In Love” from Kygo’s Cloud Nine, and “Run Away” from dvsn’s Morning After, among others. 2022s The Less I Knew arrived to critical acclaim as Variance attested, “It makes for the perfect listen in the midst of these complicated times, brimming with emotion and candidly confronting struggle while also looking to a brighter day.” Meanwhile, he’s sold out tours on multiple continents, even twice packing the world-famous Sydney Opera House.

Following the release of his seventh studio album Wide open, horses and a stunning North American tour, “Cowboys of Los” marks a new chapter—one that sees McMorrow stripping back the excess and reconnecting with the core of his artistry.
