Nettwerk is excited to sign Australian musician Jack River. Jack River is the artist name for alt-pop singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Holly Rankin. She was recently nominated for ‘Breakthrough Artist,’ ‘Engineer’ and ‘Best Pop’ at the ARIA Awards in Australia. Her debut album, Sugar Mountain, which released this summer, was self-written, composed and co-produced alongside Xavier Dunn and John Castle, and mixed by Spike Stent (Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Bjork). Rachel Cragg, A&R at Nettwerk, was involved in the signing and commented, “It’s rare to find an artist like Jack River who has such a strong vision for who they are. Holly is a true talent, and we’re beyond excited to have her join the Nettwerk family and help share her music around the world”.

WATCH (AND SHARE) THE NEWLY RELEASED VIDEO FOR “CONFESS”:

When Holly was a teenager her younger sister passed away unexpectedly from a tragic accident. To deal with her grief, Holly took to writing and journaling and created a fictional teenage life for herself. Sugar Mountain is based on these fantasies of teenage bliss, intended to induce joy, excitement and inspiration, while also addressing her reality of dealing with depression, anxiety and darkness.

It has been a busy year for Jack River, she successfully sold-out a headline Australian tour of 1,200-2,400 capacity rooms, performed at Splendor in the Grass and Gang Of Youth’s inaugural ‘A More Perfect Union’ Festival, opened for Peking Duk and played her first UK shows at The Great Escape and Dot To Dot Festival. She already has Australian dates confirmed for next year and plans to come to North America as well.

In addition to being a musician, Holly created ‘Electric Lady’ which is, “a platform to amplify the strength of women in music, politics, science, sport and beyond. Inspired by the movement of women electrifying their voices, guitars and rights across the world. It started as a band night (in Australia) and has since becomes its own world – featuring more events and stories showing the strength and grit of women.” Along with her work with ‘Electric Lady,’ she also created a festival called Grow Your Own (in her hometown of Forster, Australia), which is approaching its 3rd year and has hosted acts like Angus Stone, Alex The Astronaut and Cloud Control.  The festival this year is set for January 12th and will feature DMA’S, MALLRAT, Hockey Dad, The Preatures and more. She recently joined forces with Secret Sounds/Live Nation on these projects and hopes to bring them to North America too.

Stay tuned for more to come from Jack River soon.
