“A songwriter with real depth.” – CLASH
“Out of his comfort zone and into the intimidating space of emotional vulnerability.” – Atwood
Up-and-coming musician William Clapson (better known as Jack in Water), returns with a brand new single, a stunning cover of Aimee Mann’s “Wise Up.” It’s a personal song for Clapson that reminds him of his childhood in the mid-90s, dealing with social themes close to his new forthcoming material, such as addiction and alcoholism. Listen to the single here and watch a heartfelt acoustic rendition filmed at Clapson’s home.
Since releasing his second EP Presence in 2019, made in conjunction with Ben Christophers (best known for his work with Bat for Lashes), Jack In Water has been busy writing and recording new material. He’s currently set to release his new EP entitled Mole Hill Green this coming August, the release is named after the village where Clapson grew up in Essex, UK. Along with “Wise Up,” the EP will include acoustic versions of original songs.
Hugely personal work, Jack In Water’s forthcoming new material takes a reflective look on his childhood memories and relationships, digging back into uncomfortable emotions and sometimes abuse, in order to process past traumas and appreciate the person he has become now. “When you’re no longer tangled up in its ups and downs but you’re still able to see that you’re inevitably a result of everything that’s happened to you so far,” Clapson explained. “Being able to reflect on my upbringing has been quite therapeutic, and also difficult at times…”
