“A songwriter with real depth.” – CLASH

Alternative UK singer-songwriter William Clapson, better known as Jack In Water, has released his stunning new EP Mole Hill Green today via Nettwerk, featuring acoustic versions of original songs and a tender cover of Aimee Mann’s “Wise Up.” Recorded during lockdown and mixed by long-time collaborator Oliver Chapman, the EP is named after the village where Clapson grew up in Essex, UK and tackles social themes close to his heart.

Since releasing his second EP Presence in 2019, made in conjunction with Ben Christophers (best known for his work with Bat for Lashes), Jack In Water has been busy writing and recording new material. Hugely personal work, his new material takes a reflective look on his childhood memories and relationships, digging back into uncomfortable emotions and sometimes abuse in order to process past traumas and appreciate the person he has become now. “When you’re no longer tangled up in its ups and downs but you’re still able to see that you’re inevitably a result of everything that’s happened to you so far,” Clapson explains. “Being able to reflect on my upbringing has been quite therapeutic, and also difficult at times.”
