Indie Pop Band The Collection Announces New Album ‘Little Deaths’ Out August 9
April 5, 2024 BY Emma Orland
Indie-pop band The Collection is thrilled to announce their new album Little Deaths, out August 9th with Nettwerk. The music explores the aches, joys, and acceptance of deep, personal growth after frontman David Wimbish became sober during the pandemic. Little Deaths shows raw vulnerability by rearranging the songs with unconventional instruments, from duct-taped pianos to rubber-bridged guitars, giving each piece an intimate immediacy. The band’s latest single, “The Come Down,” is no exception, challenging the negative stigmas surrounding mental health featured throughout the album. Pre-save the album HERE.

The progression of the band’s sound, Wimbish says, is palpable. “Our last record was triumphant. Little Deaths is about vulnerability. I’d been isolated and drinking a lot, and I realized I’d lost any sense of presence in the moment. When I got sober, I realized the best — and worst — thing about it was that I felt all my feelings. I felt really vulnerable.”
Wimbish adds about “The Come Down,” “Loving someone with depression is hard, but loving someone with manic depression is a whole new level. After trying to be there for my friends while they were on a roller coaster of highs and lows, the bottom dropped out of my own mental health and I found myself deep in the same experience that I had been trying to navigate, but this time from the other side of things. ‘The Come Down’ is about maneuvering through waves of depression and mania, and the few friends who manage to provide stability and support through it all.”
“The Come Down” follows the release of “Rain It Down,”“Spark of Hope,” “The Weather” and breakout hit “Medication,” all off the band’s forthcoming album Little Deaths.

The Collection derives an inimitable musical language from the unbreakable bond between its members. Fronted by David Wimbish, the Saxapahaw, NC-based band places just as much emphasis on interpersonal community and relationships as it does on the music itself. Because of this, the band have generated tens of millions of streams, logged tens of thousands of miles on the road, earned praise from American Songwriter, Glide, Parade, and more, and landed on NPR Tiny Desk Judges’ Picks – all before signing their first record deal with Nettwerk Music Group in 2022. Additionally, The Collection have developed a devout fan base thanks in part to their renowned rowdy performances. They have lit up festival stages and crisscrossed the country with The Oh Hellos, RIPE, Tall Heights, and Sammy Rae & The Friends, to name a few. In January 2023, the six-piece released their boldest EP, How to Survive an Ending, emanating love and positivity in typical The Collection fashion. The band spent the past few months in the studio and have now returned in 2024 with their most vulnerable work to date.
