The Light The Heat crystallizes the union of two complementary creative perspectives, two minds, and two hearts. Nathan Horst and Jesse Proctor speak the same musical language in their own respective dialects and accents. Moving forward in harmony together, the pair balance immersive production, eloquent folk instrumentation, and elevated songcraft. Generating nearly 30 million-plus streams and receiving acclaim from Variance Magazine, Big Takeover, and more, they fortify the strength of their bond.
Meeting in 2014, they initially wrote music for film and television behind-the-scenes. 2017 saw them form The Light The Heat and unveil the Silhouettes EP. They gained traction with their full-length debut, Wide Awake, during 2020. “All For You” eclipsed 6.3 million Spotify streams, and “Rest Of Our Lives” generated north of 4.5 million Spotify streams. During 2021, they joined forces with Nashville-based composer and producer Roary for the Afterlight EP. Of the title track, Variance Mag claimed, “‘Afterlight’ is a reminder of what is good and overall brighter days. It’s a welcome sentiment at any time, but it’s very much necessary in this moment.” Additionally, The Big Takeover hailed “Waking Up” as “powerful and cathartic.”
Despite the distance between them with Nathan in Harrisburg, PA and Jesse in Tacoma, WA, they maintained this artistic momentum on Morning Light, writing and recording remotely, yet spiritually in lockstep. They both agreed on a more organic approach.
“The last EP ended up being pretty slick, so our response was to do an EP that was more raw, less produced, and a little sparser,” says Nathan. “We were on the same page, and it came together pretty quickly.”
“We left space for each element to be heard,” agrees Jesse. “It was a fun challenge to keep it simple and showcase the songs. We tried to create a world and let listeners sink into it.”
In the end, The Light The Heat’s union shines brighter than ever on Morning Light.
