Icelandic Singer-Songwriter Shares Third Taste of Sophomore Album With New Single “Have This Dance”

February 2, 2024 BY Emma Orland

Icelandic singer-songwriter Axel Flóvent puts forward his masterful new single ‘Have This Dance’, the third offering from his forthcoming new album out this summer on Nettwerk.

An ethereal mix of glossy synths and bold piano are at the forefront of Axel’s music, and ‘Have This Dance’ is no exception – a transcending soundscape that transports listeners to an oasis of serenity.

With honest lyricism shining through Axel proves he’s an artist without reservation, a songwriter who proudly wears his heart on his sleeve. With all his cards placed firmly on the table, ‘Have This Dance’ puts forward the notion of reconnection.

“‘Have This Dance’ is a simple love song,” says Axel. “It’s about falling in love and seeing the world in a new light. You thought you had seen it all and you were bored of it and now this person came along. Things felt exciting again.”

The accompanying video, directed and filmed by Magnus Andersen, was shot in the beautiful Faroe Islands last summer, with the participation of Faroese dance company RIVA.

The single follows previous singles ‘When the Sun Goes Down’ and ‘ Asymmetry’, marking a hazily warm return for the artist following last year’s collaborative EP Coexist.

About Axel Flóvent:

When we embrace life’s constant forward motion, we absorb natural momentum and ultimately grow. In the same spirit, Axel Flóvent charts his progression in real-time via his artistry. The Icelandic singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer chronicles memories and moments through a combination of folk eloquence and alternative sonic expression punctuated by bursts of magnetic pop. Leaning into life’s ebb and flow, he allows his signature sound to breathe and thrive.

Born and raised in the Northern fishing village of Húsavík, the world initially met Axel in 2015 when he unveiled his independent debut Forest Fires EP. The title track ‘Forest Fires’ eventually gathered north of 74 million Spotify streams and counting. He engaged audiences with his Quiet Eyes EP [2017], Tourist EP [2020], and full-length debut You Stay by the Sea [2021]. From the latter, ‘You Stay By The Sea’ tallied over 5.2 million Spotify streams followed by ‘Tourist’ with 4.7 million Spotify streams. His debut album was met with widespread critical applause, The Line of Best Fit raved, “You Stay By The Sea is comforting music that’ll nourish your soul,” and Atwood Magazine praised how the album “found the Icelandic singer/songwriter tapping into his full potential as a storyteller, a sonic architect, and a weaver of wonders. In 2022 he released the collaborative EP Coexist which featured collaborations with Tusks, Hayden Calnin, Plàsi, and Ciaran Lavery.
