Humbird Returns with Astrovan: The Love Song Vignettes
November 1, 2024 BY Emma Orland
Just a handful of months since the release of her acclaimed album Right On, Humbird returns with Astrovan: The Love Song Vignettes. A “ wistful experiment,” as she describes it, Astrovan: The Love Song Vignettes arrives as 11 songs delivered in under 16 minutes showcasing an undeniable creative ethos: songs, like love, are best when shared heartily, no matter how short. Today, Siri Undlin, the artist behind the moniker, shares the album title track, “Astrovan,” and will subsequently release one song each week leading into the full album release on January 10. Listen to “Astrovan” HERE.
Undlin says, “This is less like an album and more like a message in a bottle. It’s warm like an old radio, fresh like weeding the garden, dusty with adventure. It’s not exactly a smooth ride, but back roads rarely are. That’s the fun.” She describes the song “Astrovan” as “a love song about an adventure and fooling around in a van.”

About Humbird:
Siri Undlin grew up steeped in church choirs and traditional Irish ensembles, which eventually led to conducting extensive folklore and musical research around the world as a Watson Fellow. That work inspired years of DIY touring around North America, including performing around the twin cities one backyard at a time during the pandemic. Undlin continues to expand and experiment as a writer and bandleader in a way that is fluid with each season, and oddly suited for this particular moment. Following the surprise success of the self-released debut album Pharmakon and the pensive reflections of 2021’s Still Life, her 2024 critically-lauded album Right On is the next iteration in her process of witnessing the world in all its complexity and responding with candid consideration. It is nine tracks of electrified, gritty, Midwest Americana with a little magic fairy dust thrown in. Humbird spent the majority of 2024 on the road, both headlining clubs across the U.S. and supporting such artists as Indigo De Souza, Watchhouse, Brent Cobb and Lady Lamb, as well as appearances at festivals and conferences like AMERICANAFEST and Folk Alliance. 2025 will see the release of Undlin’s latest project, Astrovan: The Love Song Vignettes, as well as more live shows across the country.
