Brisbane indie-folk duo Hollow Coves have revealed a gorgeously crafted single that glistens with optimism. “Anew” is a perfect taste of their upcoming debut full length album, Moments (October 18th), comprised of 11 tracks inspired by reflecting on a variety of moments and unforgettable shared experiences in their lives and the lives of those around them over the past three years.  Their passion for positivity and lightness is reflected through their vivid lyricism, earthy vocals and perfect harmonies.

Pinning the single as their most passionate and definitive release to date, “Anew” is Hollow Coves’ ode to their fans. They became inspired to write the song after receiving a message from a fan battling depression who found renewed hope in their music. The boys wrote “Anew” with the intent to change the perspectives of those who need a touch of brightness.

The band says: “After our ‘Wanderlust’ EP, we got a message from a young girl telling us that she’d battled major clinical depression for years, and felt completely isolated, hopeless, worthless, and even had thoughts of suicide. But then she heard our music and something in our music touched her and gave her hope again. She told us that it was our music that helped her to overcome those thoughts of suicide and brought her to a better place.

We were absolutely blown away that our music could make such a powerful difference in someone’s life. Hearing that had such a profound impact on us. But soon she became just one of many. As time passed, more and more people from all over the world began to reach out with similar stories of our music helping them through tough times, depression, anxiety & suicidal thoughts. It rattled us; in a good way.

We’ve heard way too many stories of people taking their lives as a result of depression. The statistics are devastating. Suicide is the number one cause of death for Australians around our age. So we felt compelled to write a song that would aim to speak hope into people’s lives and motivate them to keep going. We wanted to remind people that life has ups and downs. When you feel like you’re at your lowest; there is still hope. Things will get better. Just keep going.”

Hollow Coves emanate an enduring light with every song and show. “We hope our music can at least have some sort of positive impact. If people walk away with a changed perspective, inspired, motivated, or just a little bit more stoked with life, then we would consider that a success.”

A dynamic indie folk group brimming with their passion for travel and observing different shades of the world, Hollow Coves is the project of Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins. After meeting in 2013 through mutual friends and a shared love of acoustic music, the boys began writing together with no real expectations for where it might lead. Five years later, Ryan and Matt’s memories from their travels across all corners of the globe have led to a range of new music influenced by their journeys. The pair first caught attention with their debut EP Wanderlust (2017), featuring standout track “The Woods,” which garnered over 40 million streams on Spotify alone, while two of the other songs, “Coastline” and “Home,” each surpassed 30 million Spotify streams.
