Hermitude Shares Video For Latest Single “St Claire”

January 15, 2022 BY Nettwerk

Hermitude, the electronic duo of Luke Dubber (Dubs) and Angus Stuart (“El Gusto”), returns with the official video for “St Claire,” the first single from an upcoming 2022 album.

Opening to a cerebral synth, “St Claire” began as a creative spurt that led to a new kind of homecoming. El Gusto and Dubs were in Japan when COVID became a stark reality. Just making it back to Australia before the borders closed, they quietly slipped up to Angus’ home just outside of the Blue Mountain town of Blackheath as the rest of the world went into lockdown. The two holed up together with a pared-back music setup: a Moog Matriarch, one other synth, and a laptop. This setup was a stark contrast to their previous recording studio, which came equipped with a recording room, live room, drum room, all with gear set up and at least ten synths to play around with. The limited amount of equipment, by contrast, let their imaginations run wild. The result is a light, glittering track that pushes the tempo slightly further from the typical Hermitude bpm range. “It was like the Easter egg that was waiting to be found, that led to all the other Easter eggs,” Angus jokes.

As the first track that inspired the rest of the forthcoming album, “St Claire” is a proper tribute to their hometown. Working with director Paven Gill (Sonder Films), the official music video is set in the Mountains, capturing the story of the people and places up there and that deep-rooted sense of home.

Their latest album, Pollyanarchy, again reflected the duo’s development as one of the country’s best collaborators, working with guest artists like Buddy & BJ The Chicago Kid, Vic Mensa, Bibi Bourelly, Electric Fields, and Haiku HandsDaniel Bedingfield, Kimbra, Kameron, and Drew Love.
