Harrison Brome Shares the Moody New Single “In The Dark”
September 2, 2022 BY Jason Currell
Today, Harrison Brome unveils the follow-up to his July EP Strange with the release of new single, “In The Dark.” The pop savant takes a melancholy tone as he croons longingly for his lost love. The song embodies late-night energy with wispy guitar lines and hushed vocals. “In The Dark” sees Brome teaming up once again with frequent collaborator and Grammy-winning producer Pomo (KAYTRANADA, Mac Miller, Anderson .Paak). Harrison Brome gives additional background on the song’s inception:
“I wanted to write about the footsteps of a stalker who hides in the shadows of an ex-relationship. Following and watching as their relationship grows apart and moves onto the next, there is this feeling of being left alone in the dark. I was inspired by The Police “Every Breathe You Take” where the song sits in this elegant and melancholic delivery, but has somewhat of a sinister undertone with the writing. This was actually one of the first songs that I had written coming into the pandemic and thought it would fit well with the new direction I’ve been moving in musically.”
Many people describe music as a lifeline — but few mean it in the way that Harrison Brome does. Music has been integral to the life of the 25-year-old producer, songwriter, and vocalist since he found out he had dyslexia at an extremely early age. Struggling with reading and writing at a young age, Harrison’s mother bought him a karaoke machine; singing out words and reading while he sang became integral to managing his dyslexia.
About Harrison Brome:
The Vancouver, British Columbia native makes music chic, mood-driven, and inherently genreless; in each of his compositions is a dialogue between R&B, psych-pop, classic indie, and cutting-edge electronic music. Across his catalog, Harrison has received praise from fans and tastemakers alike, both on the radio (KCRW, BBC Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra) and in press (FADER, VICE, Complex, NYLON, HighSnobiety), as well as a loyal live following with performances at Osheaga Music & Arts Festival, Bumbershoot, The Great Escape, Electric Forest and more.
