Good Old War’s Dan Schwartz Announces Instrumental, Guitar-Only Side Project Danny Black

January 30, 2017 BY Nettwerk

Dan Schwartz of indie rock band Good Old War is excited to announce his instrumental, guitar-only project, Danny Black. The debut album, Adventure Soundtrack, is set for release via Nettwerk on February 24th. The first single, “Cascade,” premiered via video on Guitar Aficionado last week and is available on all DSP’s now.

Danny, who has spent the last several years on the road with Good Old War and is an outdoor enthusiast (rock climber, trail runner, hiker, etc.), wanted to create an album to inspire listeners to go out and create their own adventures. Recorded last winter in a sleepy New Jersey beach town, Adventure Soundtrack weaves together a patchwork of acoustic, electric, and 12-string guitar, embracing folk, progressive, rock and blues. Inspired by a longtime passion for six-string virtuosos such as Leo Kotke, Tommy Emmanuel, and Robert Fripp of King Crimson, the album utilizes the guitar to conjure evocative imagery as expansive as the scenery Danny loves to explore.

When asked why he created an instrumental guitar record, Danny replied, “I made a guitar album for no reason other than my love of the instrument. I’d never personally recorded anything but demos, so it was a really incredible feeling to make an album on my own. When people listen to it, I want it to enhance what they have going on. That’s the great thing about instrumental music. I’d love for them to create their own adventure to it and let it become part of their daily soundtrack.”

Danny will celebrate the release of Adventure Soundtrack with a special hometown show in Philadelphia on March 3rd at The MAAS Building. Tickets are available here.

Stay tuned for more to come from Danny Black.
