German Based Twin Brother Duo, Amistat, Share “Better Days,” Upcoming EP, ‘a moment in the sun’ Out 3/8

January 22, 2024 BY Emma Orland

Amistat, the exceptional German born musical duo comprising of twin brothers Josef and Jan Prasil, are on the heels of incredible momentum after going viral with their cover of Lord Huron’s “The Night We Met.” They’ve gathered over 12.1M views and 657K likes on Instagram as well as 1.8M views and 212.7K likes on TikTok.

To celebrate their accelerated success, the duo are sharing the personal and reflective “better days” from their upcoming EP a moment in the sun, which will be released March 8 via Nettwerk. Amistat initially paved the way for the EP with their previous singles “same old eyes” and “seasons.” Today’s release of “better days” represents the emotional apex of their upcoming EP, a moment in the sun. Inspired by a tragic incident, vocals quiver over faint acoustic guitar as the words echo, “Oh my mother told my father, we can no longer be together. Oh my mother told my father, nothing will be here forever.” The fragile delivery belies the intensity of the song’s theme.

My father had a very bad motorcycle accident and almost died,” shares Jan. “He was in a coma for a long time. When he woke up, he had trouble remembering who we were. It was rough, because we didn’t know how he was going to be afterwards. It was traumatic seeing my dad—who was my hero—on his knees and losing his position as a hero in my eyes. I’m standing in the hospital at 12-years-old listening to the conversation between my family.”

Boasting a diverse heritage that spans across Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Australia, Amistat’s unique background enrich their music, infusing it with a truly global essence. Josef and Jan Prasil, share an unspoken and unexplainable bond best sung aloud. The power of this bond courses through their familial harmonies and eloquent songcraft accented by individual idiosyncrasies. Songs unfold like stories with two narrators, allowing both voices space to ring out.

During 2023, Josef and Jan recorded what would become a moment in the sun in Cologne, Germany. In the studio, they made a conscious decision to expand their sound. Together, they explored what it means to be human over breezy soundscapes laced with threads of soft acoustic guitar, organic piano, and intimate harmonies. The duo sing candidly about all of our ups, downs, insecurities, anxieties, hopes, dreams, and everything in between. In doing so, they allow an unfiltered perspective into their respective personalities and their identity as a collective. Against light soundscapes, the emotion breathes the loudest. a moment in the sun will be released via Nettwerk on March 8.
