FLEMISH TRUMPET SAVANT AND LOFI PRODUCER SHARES NEW SINGLE “DAYLIGHT”
October 7, 2022 BY Jason Currell
Nettwerk Records is thrilled to announce the signing of Phlocalyst, a Flemish lo-fi producer currently working in Munich as a classical trumpet player in an orchestra. The prolific trumpeter joins Nettwerk’s roster of instrumental artists already knowing some familiar faces—he has released music with Oatmello and SCayos.
Today, Phlocalyst shares “Daylight,” the first single from his forthcoming debut EP with Nettwerk. The bright track centers around bouncy Rhodes chords, with an antique sounding trumpet jumping in for the melody and a shaker loop tying everything together.
“[‘Daylight’ is the] perfect song to start your day and feel the first sun rays on your skin,” he shares. “Don’t worry, be happy, and enjoy some smooth trumpet melodies, phased Rhodes and a small trumpet & piano improvisation that will create a good mood for the rest of the day.
Since Phlocalyst began making music in 2017, his rich catalog has surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify alone. He’s been a mainstay on Spotify’s ever-popular “lofi beats” playlist (4.7M likes) and prior to signing with Nettwerk, he released several songs with instrumental stalwart Lofi Girl.
Phlocalyst has also been a pioneer of bringing lo-fi beyond the computer screen, having done DJ sets with live trumpet in Belgium, Spain, Germany, France and more. Fans are likely to recognize him from his curly blonde hair and signature blue baseball cap; although sports-wise, he prefers soccer and darts.
