November 1, 2024 BY Emma Orland
Acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist Evgeny Grinko is set to release his second single, “Západ Slunce,” from the much-anticipated album Winter Moonlight, arriving February 7th, 2025. This deeply personal and evocative track, originally composed in 2009, is now reimagined as part of Grinko’s exploration of nostalgic and delicate musical themes in his latest work.
Reflecting on the creation of “Západ Slunce,” Grinko shared:
“This was one of my first compositions on piano, written in 2009. ‘Západ Slunce’ is like a mantra for me that allows me to feel light and return to childhood. The composition was written in C major. This key is said to evoke innocence, happiness, and a spiritual feeling. The more I think about it, the more I think this description fits the composition and its history perfectly. I wrote it thinking about my childhood, which is by definition a time of innocence and which for me was a time of great happiness. And I wrote it at a comparatively innocent moment where I was exploring new musical possibilities for the first time.”
“Západ Slunce” captures the essence of these emotions, radiating simplicity and warmth. Through its gentle melodies and flowing harmonies, the piece invites listeners to experience a profound sense of nostalgia and peace. With this single, Grinko offers a window into his past while preparing fans for the emotional depth and beauty that Winter Moonlight promises to deliver.
This release follows Grinko’s highly praised previous work, known for its intimate and cinematic quality, which has earned him a dedicated following. “Západ Slunce” continues in this tradition, blending minimalistic piano with ethereal soundscapes, taking listeners on a meditative journey.
