“NAVA are a new music project who are exploring the very peripheries of what it means to make a pop song.” – The Line of Best Fit
“Artfully constructed pop of an electronic hue, NAVA match crunching neo-industrial sounds against digital glamour” – Clash
“Ritual perfectly mixes elements of experimental electronics with the fascinating voice of the singer… that recalls the most interesting producers/artists of the international scene like Arca or Purity Ring.” – Rolling Stone Italy
The mysterious and enigmatic Milanese band NAVA have shared a striking video for their latest single, the exhilarating and Persian-dance inspired “Ritual.”
Directed by visual artist Karol Sudolski, who mixes hyper-futurism with a timeless appeal, the “Ritual” video is “an aesthetic interpretation of preparation for a battle“, the band says. “It’s the defence mechanism of a broken heart looking for revenge and ready for war. The masks represent an armour that protect the heart body and soul…”
“Ritual is tribal, it portrays NAVA’s animalistic raw soul, letting loose in the urban jungle it’s trapped in,” lead singer Nava Golchini explained. “The percussions bang and rattle whilst the melody slithers through them… like a predator mesmerizing its prey. It’s an industrial piece, a modern tune but influenced by Farzaneh Kaboli’s Persian visceral dance too.”
NAVA formed in Milan in 2016. Originally from Iran, singer Nava Golchini met producer & arranger Francesco Fugazza whilst studying music in Italy. The collaboration then expanded to include drummers Elia Pastori and Marco Fugazza. Talking cues from Italy’s current flourishing electronic music scene and international acts like Arca, Apparat, Purity Ring, etc, NAVA are a real cultural blender, melding Golchini’s own Persian musical background and the band’s experimental & topsy-turvy arrangements, into something truly cosmopolitan and visceral. Their debut songs such as ‘Navigate’, released originally on Italian indie label Factory Flaws, garnered attention from The Line of Best Fit, Rolling Stone Italy, Earmilk, Red Bull and more.
The quartet are currently working on their debut EP, to be released with Nettwerk Records (Mallrat, Boxed In, The Veils) in the summer.
