Emmy-Award Winning, Juilliard-Trained Musician Braxton Cook Shares Poignant New Single “Indie”

January 13, 2023 BY Jason Currell

Today, Emmy Award-WinningJulliard-trained jazz-R&B artist Braxton Cook unveils another taste of his forthcoming LP Who Are You When No One Is Watching?, with the elegant, saxophone-driven song “Indie.” The song reflects on his humble beginnings as an independent artist, learning under his mentor Christian Scott, touring with Tom Misch, recording with Phony Ppl, Jon Batiste, and more. The moody and atmospheric tune tells the story of his journey with elevated instrumentation. Listen to “Indie” on all digital retailers (here).

Braxton explains, “When I composed this tune I set out to depict the journey that I’ve been on as an independent Jazz artist. Navigating the ups and downs of the music industry as an independent artist has been incredibly rewarding but equally challenging. For most of my career, I haven’t had management or an agent, and had minimal PR all the while providing for my family. I’ve been incredibly blessed to have had such a beautiful career thus far. It’s taken a lot of work, faith, prayer and fortune and my goal is to make the most of these amazing opportunities and relationships in my life. Now a father and husband, music has taken on an even deeper role and purpose in my life and this song as well as my album serves as my attempt to honor the people, values and tenants that got me to where I am today.”

“Indie” follows the R&B-leaning “90s,” a collaboration with his friend Masego. Both tracks will also appear on Braxton’s highly anticipated fifth full-length album which was recently named in BET’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2023 List. Who Are You When No One Is Watching? is out February 24th, 2023 via Nettwerk.
