Didirri Announces New EP ‘Sold For Sale’ Out September 25; Shares Lead Single “The Critic”

August 6, 2020 BY Nettwerk

Alternative singer-songwriter Didirri today announces his much-awaited second EP Sold For Sale will be released on September 25th via Nettwerk. He celebrates this news with the release of exuberant and contemplative lead single “The Critic,” along with the announcement of a special series of live-streamed concerts across the globe.

The EP’s recording spans the globe. Part of it was recorded in a house in the isolated and concentrated rural idyll of Johanna located on Victoria, Australia’s south-west coast. Part of it was recorded at the iconic Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles. And, thanks to the current pandemic, part of it was recorded via sound files and video calls with musicians scattered all over the world during lockdown. It’s because of this that the Sold for Sale EP is as much a physical and metaphorical journey for the artist as it is a sonic journey for the listener.

If his debut Measurements EP (2018) was a walk through the dark tunnel of life, the time since then shows that Didirri has grown as a person, an artist and as a songwriter. Two more years of life and experience, with two more years of stories to tell, Sold for Sale holds our hands and gently leads us towards the light.

Combining Didirri’s effortless songwriting with legendary producer Joe Chiccarelli’s expert production technique (Elton John, Beck, The Shins, The White Stripes, Keaton Henson), lead single “The Critic” sees Didirri juxtapose a cheerful melody against the story of love gone awry. “The Critic” is about that person who overanalyzes every action and reaction in a relationship.

Didirri says, “The act of criticizing something can often ruin it. It may seem like the most intelligent move to analyze your every action, but make sure you don’t over correct and start to see things beyond what is actually going on.

Love needs to be free of criticism to flourish. You aren’t the expert in your relationship; you are half of the team and half of the problem.”

Directed by Peter Hume, the accompanying video captures the endless, repetitive cycle of unnecessarily overthinking and overcomplicating a relationship, sometimes to the point of accidental destruction.

“I wanted to play with the concept of a hopeless romantic,” says Didirri. “All too often we ruin something beautiful by naming it or wreck something fragile by touching it. We can start with the best foot forward and end up on a treadmill, circling in our analysis of love over and over.

It’s not just the thorns that will scratch you. If coddled, love will bleed.”

To celebrate the EP release, Didirri will be virtually touring the world throughout September – offering specially curated intimate and captivating online concerts for fans in the UK, North America, Europe and Canada via his website and YouTube, ending on September 25th with an extra special release-day concert stream for Australian fans, where Didirri will also be hand-pressing vinyl while discussing the EP.

The concerts will be “pay what you can,” giving fans the opportunity to watch for free or donate any amount they are comfortable with directly to the artist, band and production crew. Tickets and merch bundles will be on sale Monday, August 10th. Visit  www.didirri.com/tour for further information.
