Cub Sport Premiere “I’m On Fire,” Debut Album Out March 4th

February 5, 2016 BY Nettwerk

Cub Sport premiered “I’m On Fire” off their upcoming debut album, This Is Our Vice (March 4th) via The Wild Honey Pie yesterday. The track is based on a true story about a spurned lover who set herself on fire in retaliation for being dumped. “You’re convinced that I’m not strong, but I am here to show you that’s not right,” he sings. “’Cause I’m not lit, but I’m alight.” The ex-girlfriend made it out okay, thus the lilting chorus…because everyone loves a happy ending? Songwriter Tim Nelson concedes, “It’s pretty fucked up.”

What the critics are saying:
Indie Shuffle on “I Can’t Save You” – “An animated and charmingly retro triumph. Punchy in all the right places…”
Culture Collide – “Cub Sport has concocted a heady and potent emotional cocktail with its examination of romance and friendships gone sour…”
The Wild Honey Pie on “I’m On Fire” – “a glowing, dense pop gem with Nelson’s strong melodies layered over the band’s driving instrumentals.”
Kick Kick Snare on “It Kills Me” – “An indie pop gem with an earworm of a synth flute hook… guaranteed to loop in your mind until the end of days.”
All Things Go on “Only Friend” – “The Brisbane four-piece’s latest is a swirling piece of synth-pop with psychedelic tendencies.”
PopularTV on “I Can’t Save You” – “infectious hooks and airy vocals, Cub Sport’s single is a sweet one…”
A Music Blog Yeah? on “It Kills Me” – “an effortlessly cool and sultry release with an irresistible slow burning groove.”
Howl & Echoes on “I Can’t Save You” – “A glimmering exercise in synth-driven indie-pop…”
I Heart Moosiq on “I Can’t Save You” – “a wonderfully hooking swirl of gooey synthpop and hazy dance rock…”
Cub Sport – Tim Nelson (lead vocals), Zoe Davis (guitar), Dan Puusaari (drums) and Sam Netterfield (keyboard) – first caught attention Stateside with their Told You So EP (2012). The blissed-out, anthemic title track vaulted into the top 20 of the CMJ college-radio chart, and the band spent the following year impressing at various seminal festivals around the world, including Brighton’s The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Music Matters Singapore and multiple packed rooms during NYC’s CMJ Music Marathon. Their upcoming full-length debut, This Is Our Vice (March 4th), is an album filled mercurial topics such as self-doubt and self-immolation that are crafted into an expanse of shimmering harmonies and sticky melodies. The record follows the October release of the Only Friend EP.
