Cloudchord Returns With Spaghetti Western-Themed EP ‘Daybreak’

Cloudchord (Derek VanScoten), the producer, guitarist, and genre bender specialist that is augmenting musical possibility into reality returns with his new EP Daybreak, out today via Nettwerk. Daybreak is a six-song Spaghetti Western fever dream, fueled by tumbleweed and mescal. Initially teased with “Walkabout,” “Hermanos,” “Morning Glory,” and “Mescal Buttons,” Daybreak is fully instrumental. An EP largely guided by Cloudchord’s lap steel guitar, resulting in an epic sand dune saga, a vision quest journey. As fellow producer Brock Berrigan proclaimed, this “sounds like the desert in audio form.”

“Musical genres feel like articles of clothing to me. Can I rock this hat and shirt, and still be me, without it looking like a costume? My goal with Daybreak was to see if I could try on the Spaghetti Western/ Desert vibe, and have it sound natural inside the sonic narrative of Cloudchord,” shares Derek VanScoten.
