Canyon City Shares Nostalgic New Single “Paris”
June 17, 2021 BY Nettwerk
Modern folk artist and producer Paul Johnson, aka Canyon City, returns with a new single called “Paris” from his upcoming project, details forthcoming. Unfurling as a wistful lull, his voice barely stretches above a whisper over soft acoustic guitar as he recalls a very special trip to Paris with his wife via the unshakable chorus, “Time and time, remind me of, Paris.” “Paris” is available at digital retailers HERE.
Johnson says, “’Paris’ describes a sort of nostalgic day-dream scenario in which the speaker is flipping through old memories like someone would flip through TV channels or home videos. The chorus is, more than recalling a memory, about revisiting and maintaining an emotion, particularly as it pertains to a relationship.”
“Paris,” along with the previously released “Song for Spring,” are the first new songs from Canyon City since 2020’s Circling the Sun, a warm, inviting and sweetly cinematic EP primarily written and produced in household settings, save for a bit of recording at the local Library. The EP garnered critical acclaim, with American Songwriter saying, “Contemplative and utterly minimalist, Johnson’s music puts his heart directly in the spotlight,” and Atwood calling the EP “a soft, tender set of heartfelt acoustic songs full of space, reflection, and acceptance.” Listen to Circling the Sun HERE.
Johnson first introduced Canyon City in 2015. He prolifically built a growing catalog highlighted by a series of EPs and albums such as Midnight Waves [2016], Constellation [2017], Bluebird [2019] and Circling the Sun [2020]. Over this time, he has eclipsed 100 million-plus streams and receiving acclaim from NPR, Paste, American Songwriter, Atwood and more. Though he started his career in Nashville, he and his wife now reside in Ft. Collins, CO.
