Brooklyn’s innovative experimental quartet ALTOPALO return with frenetic single “Frenemy”

Brooklyn’s altopalo today shared their stunning new single “frenemy” via Nettwerk. Listen HERE and below.
Following their recent record, farawayfromeveryoneyouknow, which Pitchfork said, “recalls the work of genre-less auteurs like Justin Vernon or James Blake,”altopolo’s “frenemy” confronts the tough parts of the creative process, bringing insecurities, and frustration, complications of the ego, and ultimately compromise and the elation of true collaboration to the surface. It’s a high-drive, precariously wavering, collectedly frantic 3 minutes of a song – as dynamic as the whole experience of being in a band.
About “frenemy”, drummer Dillon Treacy shares: “You don’t have to like everything about [someone], and when you accept that, the person almost becomes an enemy or a foil to who you are. Which leads to the concept that we all realized that we’re four brothers who are just IMMENSELY competitive with each other and think we’re inadequate to hang, but the funny thing is that we all feel that about ourselves. We wrote what I call ‘love letters’ to us, and the most surprising thing, is that we all look up to each other. It was a beautiful realization. Because here I am thinking that I don’t amount to the talent and abilities of my friends to the point that I don’t deserve to be their friend, but we actually all feel that way ourselves. We have created frenemies out of each other and this song is about that realization.”
Veterans of the New York underground scene, the four members of altopalo – lead singer Rahm Silverglade, guitarist Mike Haldeman, bassist Jesse Bielenberg, and drummer Dillon Treacy – disintegrate the boundaries of genre, folding in elements of R&B, electronica, ambient, and jazz through their deconstructionist approach to guitar-driven music reminiscent of artists such as Bon Iver, Moses Sumney, Black Midi, and their unique siund has received acclaim from a host of publications/sites such as Pitchfork, The Fader, The Line of Best Fit, Nylon, Clash, etc.
