Boy Bleach Announce ‘The Beautiful Blue’ EP Out November 22; Release New Single “Blood Honey”

September 20, 2024 BY Emma Orland

Politically charged and brimming with scorn, East London’s Boy Bleach has announced the release of their new EP The Beautiful Blue (out 22nd November)  with the thumping new single ‘Blood Honey’, out now on Nettwerk (listen here). To mark the release of the EP the band will return to London on the 21st November for a headline show at The Underworld in London (tickets here).

Blood Honey’ is born from the relentless clash of Rich vs. Poor and captures the essence of societal divide – It’s a raw, unapologetic critique of greed and the unchecked power of the elite.

Speaking about the single Jimi says: “We’ve had an axe to grind with this project and Blood Honey feels the most direct we’ve allowed ourselves to be on record. We’ve grown up with this Us vs. Them mentality when it comes to class. At the time, we were feeling intensely let down by the world – we still are to be honest, and this song was born out of frustration and pain. It’s just a real conversation. I think it’s how a lot of people in our position, and even worse off, are feeling. We think songs like this are necessary because they’re uncomfortable to listen to if you’re the one being addressed. If you have a problem with it, listen properly or fuck off.”

The new EP The Beautiful Blue is a scathing punk-infused take down of the social, political and economic state of the UK today, driven by the band’s witty lyricism and working-class perspective. It features previous singles ‘Daylight Robbery’, ‘England’ and ‘Sun Cream’.  On the EP Jimi says “It’s about as close to us as you can get. The EP is like our skin in the sun. But it’s burnt, peeling skin. The Beautiful Blue feels like promise, it’s the complexity of hoping and dreaming. It’s the vastness of the sky, and that seemingly unshakeable faith in the excess of the world. But on the day you found out Santa is bullshit.”

Boy Bleach is an East London, born-and-raised alternative group made up of two sets of brothers (Lou & Jimi / James & Nick) and best friend JJ.  A musically eclectic group of council boys, a Portuguese immigrant and cockney-blooded Welsh lads.  Talented musicians in their own right, their Brit-icised alt-rock/punk sound is as diverse as their musical heroes – everything from Depeche Mode, Garbage, Blur, The Clash and Pistols to Kano and Gorillaz
