Boy & Bear Release Acoustic Album + New Song “3 Moons”

Australia’s Boy & Bear return with a new album called At Golden Retriever Studio, comprised of acoustic versions of songs from the band’s latest full-length album Suck On Light, along with fan favorites from the #1 ARIA charting albums Limit Of Love and Harlequin Dream. They’ve also included their recently released cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game (acoustic)” and an unreleased, original track called “3 Moons.”
Celebrated for their warm tones, rich harmonies and live charisma, the five-piece became inspired to record the acoustic album after their last North American tour: “When we tour the US, we often get asked to perform our songs acoustically at radio visits. This usually involves acoustic guitars, tambourines and a toy keyboard, with the five of us jammed into a small studio. Fans always ask for these versions, so it gave us the idea to record a selection of acoustic tracks and present them as an album.”
Of the new song, lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Hosking says, “3 Moons’ was part of the ‘Suck on Light’ recordings, but we decided to not put it on the record for a variety of reasons. We always loved the song, so we were stoked to find a place for it on this acoustic album. The production is different from the other songs, but I think the sentiment is the same. What started as simply a cathartic mumble ended up becoming a snapshot of my own internal struggles. The song means a lot to me.”
Boy & Bear have also shared an official video for “3 Moons.” Of the video, first-time writer/director and award-winning actress Taylor Ferguson says, “’3 Moons’ is about grief: a version of grief. I wanted the audience to feel like we were inside the actress’s (Lily Wilkinson) mind, whilst at the same time being anchored in her reality. It was fun to have some of the band play a small part too.”

Named one of USA Today’s “5 Australian Acts You Need To Know Now,” Boy & Bear saw huge success in North America with single “Southern Sun” from Harlequin Dream, which spent weeks in the Top 5 on the Triple A Top 30 Chart. The band made their U.S. late-night TV debut on CONAN and appeared on NPR’s “World Café.” Harlequin Dream (2013) and its follow up, Limit Of Love (2015), debuted at #1 on the ARIA Top Albums Chart. The band was selling out major venues such as Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and Brisbane’s Riverstage, and headlining tours across the world. In 2019, Boy & Bear returned with their finest album to date, Suck On Light.
