Bleach Lab Shares New Single “All Night”

May 19, 2023 BY Jason Currell

UK indie band Bleach Lab shares their latest single, “All Night” from their forthcoming debut album, Lost In A Rush of Emptiness, out September 22nd via Nettwerk. The song sees the band explore the fringes of romance and obsession, with frontperson Jenna Kyle consciously using her light, airy vocals to conceal the song’s more sinister underbelly. Listen HERE.

“I was (and still am) really into true crime at the time I wrote these lyrics,” reflects Jenna. “I am attracted to mystery and suspense. I almost wanted to write a fictional story from the perspective of a person who has an unhealthy obsession with someone. I really wanted to write lyrics that at first few listens could be seen simply as romantic, someone deeply in love…but on the second or third listen the listener picks up on the darker themes.”

Lost In A Rush of Emptiness was produced by Catherine Marks, known for her work with PJ HarveyFoalsThe Big Moon and the new boygenius album. With previous singles including ‘Counting Empties and ‘Indigo,’ the highly-anticipated debut album follows a series of three EPs which have seen the band earn devoted champions at the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music and beyond. The band’s reputation is further bolstered by their dynamic live shows – which have included a sold-out headline show at London’s Lafayette late last year, and recent tours with Priestgate and We Are Scientists. On Lost In A Rush Of Emptiness the band worked with producer Catherine Marks, who proved instrumental in helping the band meld the soundscapes of their previous discography with their more contemporary influences and vision for the record. Of working with the award-winning producer, drummer Kieran Weston reflects; “We had a very clear vision of what we wanted this album to feel like, and Catherine really jumped on board with that from the start. She set a great tone in the studio to achieve that. I think we knew what we wanted the album to be visually and sonically before the songs were actually fully written in some cases, and Catherine really helped bring some of the songs to life in that regard. I think we’ve always enjoyed a certain level of freedom in the studio to completely rewrite parts. Catherine was great at allowing that creative freedom and played a huge part in it when needed.”

As well as magnetic frontperson Jenna Kyle and drummer Kieran Weston, Bleach Lab is completed by guitarist Frank Wates’ knack for crystalline, dream-pop, and the driving consistency and collaborative lyric work of bassist Josh Longman. 2021 saw the four-piece mark their arrival with the release of their first two EPs, A Calm Sense of Surrounding and Nothing Feels Real, the latter produced by Stephen Street (The Cranberries, The Smiths, Blur). 2022’s If You Only Feel It Once, drove the bands vision forward and saw them team up with producer Duncan Mills (Peace, The Vaccines, Jake Bugg) to delve deeper into poppier, more modern sounds. With each consecutive release, the band have experimented without restriction, dipping their toes into unfamiliar genres to fully work out what kind of band they are, what works best for them, and where to go next. The announcement of their debut full length effort sees Bleach Lab take another huge step forward, and sets the tone 2023 and beyond.
