Beloved Rock Band The Trews Announce ‘House of Ill Fame’ 20th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set + Tour Dates

October 20, 2023 BY Emma Orland

Acclaimed Canadian rock band The Trews introduced their magnetic and massive sound on their 2003 full-length debut album, House Of Ill Fame. Drawing on rock, pop, punk, and metal, the band took over Canadian Radio with “Not Ready to Go.” Twenty years and a Canadian Platinum Certification later, the songs still pack their original punch. Now, the album that kickstarted their incredible career will be re-released as 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Box Set. Out November 24th, this special set brings together the original record on vinyl with a second LP, Trews Alive, featuring cuts from two live shows from late summer 2004, Event In The Tent and Wakestock, showcasing The Trews at their most electrifying!

The box set also includes their brand-new Bits & Pieces album, a 22 track CD of previously unreleased songs, demos, and alternate takes, along with a 24-page book overflowing with tour photos, newspaper cut-outs, gig posters, lyrics, and writings from John-Angus himself.

The band says, “The success of ‘House of Ill Fame’ launched our career and set us on a path that we are still on today, so we thought it merited a look back and a deeper exploration of some of the other songs and sounds that we were putting down around that time to help give the album a little more context. The live recordings are blazing and remind us of the breakneck live band that we were back then. And we were always a band that tended to overwrite for every project, so for every song that made the record we must have written and demoed 10 that ended up on the cutting room floor. Some for good reason that, hopefully, serve to demonstrate our growth and others that hold up surprisingly well. At any rate, we decided that the 20-year anniversary was a good time to clean out that closet!”

Comprised of lead vocalist/guitarist Colin MacDonald, lead guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, drummer Chris Gormley, and keyboardist Jeff Heisholt, The Trews have been one of Canada’s most successful rock bands of the past decade, earning 19 Top 10 Rock radio singles (including two #1’s) and multiple Gold & Platinum certified albums. The quartet has also received multiple East Coast Music Awards, a CIMA Road Gold Award, an Independent Music Award (US) in 2009 for Best Rock / Metal Song, and numerous JUNO Award nominations. The Trews have played thousands of shows worldwide, on their own as well as supporting the Rolling Stones, KISS, Robert Plant, Guns ‘n Roses, Aerosmith, Weezer, Mumford & Sons, and Bruce Springsteen.
