split marks a turning point in awfultune’s creative odyssey. On this new project, Layla embraces experimentation while maintaining the authenticity and vulnerability that her listeners have come to expect. This time around, Layla surrendered to the creative process; letting the sound lead, split emerged from a personal demand for transformation and healing, resulting in a work that is simultaneously familiar and metamorphic.

In her own words, Layla explains: “I thought this EP was going to be all over the place, with no structure and no rules. But it ended up being the most cohesive thing I have ever made. I stepped out of what I usually do and let the sound lead me for once. It came from a part of me that needed to change, and it felt like unraveling and rebuilding at the same time. I let myself get loud, weird, and ugly, whatever I needed to be. Every track contradicts itself in a way that feels really honest, and that honesty scared me at first. That is why it is called ‘split.’”

split features recently released singles “urmybiggestfear,” “!!!!jealous,” and “breathe..” as well as  previously unheard tracks “scare me” and “aloneE.” “scare me,” initially written as a love song, reads more like a page ripped from a diary, capturing the fear of the unknown as a relationship takes hold. “aloneE” is a celestial expedition that soars and crashes as she longs for connection.

“split feels like every version of me all at once. It feels the most like me, but also like something that changed me,” Layla furthers. “I’ve never made anything like this before so it felt like a risk. The music was soul-led, like I was reaching out to something I couldn’t see. Maybe a ghost or some part of me I haven’t met yet. Even though most of these songs kind of scare me, because of how real they are, making them helped me work through emotions I didn’t even know I had.”
