Axel Flóvent Releases New Song “Tonight”; Listen Here

July 31, 2020 BY Nettwerk

Following the release of this year’s Tourist EP, rising Icelandic singer-songwriter Axel Flóvent returns with “Tonight,” a proper taste of what’s to come from his upcoming debut album (details TBA via Nettwerk Records).

I wrote the first ideas for ‘Tonight’ back in 2015, it has followed me since then as the first steps of the story I’m telling with my upcoming record. I wrote it as the prelude/introduction into the record and it evolved into being one of my favorite songs on the record,” says Axel.  Adding, “it’s a song about finding stability in a place or a moment or a person. It’s about finding stability in something that has been there all along and you’re learning to appreciate it.

Working with Clara Schicketanz, the video was shot near Axel’s apartment in Reykjavik, a place he often goes to on his evening walks, a place where the countryside and city come together. “I guess the video plot is a bit the ‘leaving space for the imagination’ kind of approach and finding comfort in this place; laying down on the grass just listening to the waves feel the mind drift off,” says Axel.

“Tonight” is out now, check it out here: https://NettwerkMusic.lnk.to/AFtonight.

About Axel Flóvent:

Born and raised in the Northern fishing village of Húsavík, Axel recorded his first EP Forest Fires, it was here where the songs were written under the influence of everything from Bon Iver to Bombay Bicycle Club.  It yielded an international phenomenon in the form of the title track, generating over 40 million streams. At 19 years old, he moved into his first apartment in Amsterdam and “felt so isolated.” He admits, “I was supposed to be in a music mecca, but I never left the apartment.” So, he traded Amsterdam for the seaside town of Brighton in the UK where he recorded the EP Youthful Hearts. Living in Brighton gave Axel “the clarity to move to Iceland.” Last year, Axel returned to Iceland, and chose to plant roots in the capital Reykjavík. Tapping into the DIY spirit of his earliest recordings, but with a sense of refinement and newfound wisdom, Axel recorded Tourist EP and forthcoming debut album with Ian Grimble (1975, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Daughter, Bear’s Den, Mumford & Sons).
