Australian Singer-songwriter Mark Wilkinson Shares the Sentimental Single “Time Floats Away”
May 25, 2023 BY Jason Currell
Australian singer-songwriter Mark Wilkinson has a way of writing sentimental songs that pull at heartstrings. He returns with the gorgeous new song, “Time Floats Away.” It starts off with Mark’s clear vocals and a tender piano line that builds with layers of instrumentation, adding a cinematic quality. The reflective song emulates the idea of time floating away and the power of wanting to grasp onto those special moments in life. Mark explains; “It often feels like time moves faster the older you get. That feeling of acceleration makes me want to try and bottle time and cram as much into each moment as possible. This track is written about trying to slow things down and ultimately about accepting that life moves at a pace you can’t control.”
He teamed up with producer Owen Lewis (Old Sea Brigade, Mickey Guyton) during his recording sessions in Nashville. “Time Floats Away” builds on the success of his 2022 EP Mariposa and signals more music on the horizon.

ABOUT MARK WILKINSON:
Playing piano and cello as a kid, Mark Wilkinson picked up a guitar in college and never put it down. He busked on three different continents and unveiled music of his own at a prolific pace. Following his 2011 full-length debut Truth Came Running, he gained international momentum with independent LPs such as Let The River Run [2013], Hand Picked, Vol. 2 [2015], Wasted Hours [2018], and Blue Eyed Girls [2019] to name a few. Christened SiriusXM’s “Discovery of the Year” upon his U.S. introduction in 2013, he has also impressively moved over 80,000 units and counting in addition to scaling the Australian Independent Charts at #1. Meanwhile, he lit up streaming platforms with the likes of “I’m On Fire” [Conki Remix], generating north of 34 million Spotify streams. Of his gigs, Huffington Post noted, “The buzz around Wilkinson’s live performances has been growing (he continues to sell out shows across Australia and throughout Europe, all without formal marketing support or promotional campaigns).”
In 2022, Mark made his Nettwerk debut with the five-song EP Mariposa. He filtered a series of major life changes and big questions into the songwriting. Sparse instrumentals highlight his immaculate vocal delivery on songs like “Belong” and “Earthquake.” Then there’s “Grafton St,” which nods to his days busking on Grafton Street in Dublin, capturing the locale’s hustle and bustle in the production.
