Australian Indie-Rock Trio LAST DINOSAURS Share Their Homage to Mexico With New Song + Video “CDMX”

May 6, 2022 BY Jason Currell

Brisbane indie-rock trio Last Dinosaurs would consider themselves an international enterprise, with themes and melodies that transcend geographical boundaries. Today, they share their ode to Mexico with the sunny psych-pop groove “CDMX,” out now via Nettwerk

The band told Atwood Magazine, ‘CDMX’ is our homage to our first time in Mexico City in 2019. We didn’t really know what to expect, but soon as we hit the ground, we realized that nothing could prepare us for that place. We were consumed, taken over and absolutely made to believe that we were dreaming. The experience of that first time was etched into our memories and CDMX is just a glimmer of what we felt. Mexico, we love you.”

Listen to “CDMX” now on all digital retailers (here).

The accompanying music video was directed by Michelle Silva and Marcelo Vera. It stars Jorge Briseño and Kenia Gomez as El Niño and La Niña respectively. The video for CDMX is about breaking out of a mundane way of life and discovering the city with fresh eyes. It is a call for adventure and exploration,” explains Silva. “For us, it is represented through the children in the video. Every time they roll the pirinola, they are transported to a new adventure, eventually wanting to take their family with them. We think the video relates to the feeling of the song of feeling larger than life, of pure happiness and discovery and a childish spirit. In the video, the children help the adults break free and share this feeling.”

“CDMX” joins “Look Back” and “Collect Call,” signaling more new music on the horizon. Last Dinosaurs are also gearing up for their first tour dates since 2019 that will take them through many major North American cities before making an appearance at Lollapalooza Music Festival on Thursday, July 28th. The band will cap off their tour with a return to Mexico to play in Monterrey, Guadalajara, and a 2-night run in Mexico City. Check out the complete list of tour dates below!

Australian indie-rock band Last Dinosaurs burst on to the scene after the release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘In A Million Years’ that debuted at #8 on the Australian ARIA chart. The success of the album had them selling out shows across Australia as well as huge headlining tours and festival plays across the UK and Europe, SE Asia and South Africa.

The band continued to win hearts in 2015 with ‘Wellness’ and then again with the much-heralded third album, ‘Yumeno Garden’. The first two singles “Dominos” and “Eleven” went straight to high rotation on Triple J, while the album tour sold out multiple venues in each city across Australia.

In December 2018, Last Dinosaurs announced their first ever U.S. tour. After selling out dates in Chicago and Los Angeles in under a minute, the tour quickly expanded into 17 sold-out shows around the country. Last Dinosaurs went on to do two more sold-out tours of the U.S. and Canada including a 21-date headline tour playing bigger and more iconic venues such as Webster Hall, Fonda Theatre, and The Fillmore. Soon after, the UK & EU came calling as the band sold-out a European tour through Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, and two nights in London. To cap it all off, they followed with a hugely successful run through Southeast Asia.

Last Dinosaurs have also supported international acts such as Foals, Matt & Kim, Lost Valentinos, and Foster the People, playing festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Laneway, Falls Festival and Field Day to name a few.

After the emergence of the pandemic and under the constraints of COVID lockdowns, the band retreated to studios in Mexico and Australia, to write and record new music.

Stay tuned for more from Last Dinosaurs.
