Australian Alt-Pop Artist Chymes Teams Up With Aston On “Taken”

Australian alternative pop artist Chymes shares her duet, “Taken,” with fellow Aussie pop sensation Aston. The anthemic pop banger is a warning to fuckboys everywhere that women don’t want to be duped.

Chymes explains, “This song was beyond fun to create. Writing with a good friend is such a pleasure and we really were able to combine our joint love for sassy, hard-hitting lyrics and punchy production for this track. The story centers itself around a person who is leading you on but is actually already in a relationship, and the temptation and frustration that comes with that. It was cool to turn this somewhat hopeless lyrical concept into something that felt flirtatious, upbeat and mouthy. Definitely our anti-fuckboy anthem!

Aston added, “It’s so much fun writing music with your friend! We’ve created many songs, but something really stood out about ‘Taken.’ We started talking about being lured in by people who already have a significant other. It’s the worst because you create a bond with someone totally unaware that they have a partner back at home. Usually, more than one person gets hurt in the situation.”

The collaboration follows her new single, “Love Me Like You Hate Me;” a desperate lover’s plea entangled in soft spoken lyrics and fluttering beats. Her debut EP, Hell & Divine, was dropped earlier this year.  With an ever-growing fan base across the globe following a tweet from BTS star Jungkook, Chymes has been streamed over 30 million times across Apple and Spotify. Her previous releases, “Euphoria” and “Sleepless,” have been featured in numerous Spotify editorial playlists, including “New Pop Revolution,” and earlier tracks “Dreaming” and “Wild” were featured on drama series Good Trouble. Her EP, Hell & Divine, was praised by tastemakers like Flaunt, Pilerats, Cool Accidents, Purple Sneakers, Parade, and more. Before touring was halted due to Covid-19, she had supported Winston Surfshirt, The Preatures, Lastlings, Tigertown, Alice Ivy, Bad Pony, Evan Klar, San Mei, Austen, and more.
