Mree

As chaotic as the world may get, certain sounds still soothe unease. Re-channeling the noise of daily life with melody; music unlocks a meditative state. Mree, the Portland-based singer, songwriter, and producer achieves ataraxia between lush chords, warm tones, and breathy vocalizations.  This approach continues to transfix a growing audience. Born Marie Hsiao, she has crafted an entrancing, engaging, and ever-evolving catalog (Nettwerk Records). Tallying over 16 million YouTube views, Mree’s music has appeared in television series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, and Beauty and the Beast as well as ad campaigns for Target. Beyond praises from NPR, American Songwriter, and more, Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) personally touted her music videos on social media. Along the way, she toured with Priscilla Ahn, Nina Nesbitt, Ron Pope, and Novo Amor in addition to headlining countless shows. Expanding her sphere of influence within the video game world, Mree’s vocals also course through the Virtual Reality game Luna.  Inspired by favorites such as Riceboy Sleeps by Jónsi and Alex, Mree diligently composes production from keys and plug-ins to capture the moment, rather than lean on lyrics.  Instead of sitting down with a guitar and then pursuing production, she wrote and produced simultaneously. As such, the music moves in lockstep with palpable intent.  “I would love for people to be able to put this on and then just kind of take a break from the stressors in their lives and maybe, find a place of peace and reflection.”
