Self-care manifests in a myriad of different forms, yet the result remains the same. It soothes stress, allays anxiety, supports well-being, and brings balance. On his forthcoming (self) care EP series, Raleigh, NC-based producer, artist, and creator linanthem achieves harmony both musically and emotionally. He reorganizes life’s ebb-and-flow into tapestries of lush lo-fi sonics and hip-hop beatcraft amplified by cinematic expanse and unfiltered emotion. Growing up, linanthem embraced music as a creative outlet. A ninth-grade suspension allowed him the time to experiment with a 30-day free trial of Ableton. While cooking up tracks, he nodded to influences ranging from Clams Casino, Nujabes, Knxwledge, and Mndsgn to composers such as Hans Zimmer and Jeremy Soule. Early Soundcloud uploads gained traction, and he appeared on influential YouTube channels, a la Yotsu, Black Lotus, and Ryuzy Music. Slowly but surely, he even funded his college education thanks to early musical success. linanthem formally came to life in 2017, with the dreaming album, followed by wonder a year later. Reacting with audiences, “passage” accumulated 6 million Spotify streams, followed by “gone” with 3 million Spotify streams. Simultaneously, he laid the groundwork for further evolution with 2019’s (self) reflection. The (self) care series builds on the themes of (self) reflection, encouraging listeners to look inward and be honest with themselves but also treat themselves with compassion.“As always, I hope my music can make someone feel better than they did before they hit the ‘play’ button,” he shares. “That’s what it’s about at the end of the day.”
