Laura Lucas
Canadian-born, Australia-based singer-songwriter Laura Lucas invites listeners into a world of intimate, indie-folk storytelling with her debut album, There’s a Place I Go (out November 14 via Nettwerk).
Produced by Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads, Maple Glider) across six weeks in London, There’s a Place I Go is a fearlessly tender exploration of memory, heartbreak, and identity. Across its 12 tracks, Laura weaves together themes of self-reflection, womanhood, and acceptance with the quiet courage and curiosity that has always fuelled her songwriting.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Lizzy McAlpine, Julia Jacklin, and boygenius, the album features standout tracks like “Reincarnation Song”, “Did the Mountain Change You?”, and the emotionally raw “The Atlantic”. From the breakup reckoning of “Easy, Going” to the feminist introspection of “Woman,” Laura reclaims sensitivity as strength. “Sensitivity can be a superpower,” she shares. “It’s not a weakness. It’s what allows me to be a songwriter and make the songs I do.
Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Laura made her way to Melbourne, Australia. In 2022, she introduced herself with her Light the Candle, Hold the Mirror EP. A year later, The Dreamer reached #2 on Apple Music’s “Breaking Acoustic” chart in nearly 30 countries, with lead single “Wake Up, Breathe In” garnering over 1 million streams on Spotify. She also teamed up with Lawson Hull on fan-favourite “I Imagine You Are Happy” and duetted with Israel Cannan on “When the Fire Started” – which has since amassed more than 1.5 million streams. On stage, she’s performed alongside Harrison Storm, Winterbourne, Salt Tree, and LANKS.
