bôa
In 1998, British alt-rock band bôa dropped their breakout single “Duvet,” a sweeping anthem that soundtracked the Japanese cult-classic anime Serial Experiments Lain. A little more than two decades later, “Duvet” re-emerged on TikTok, igniting a feverish renewed interest in the band with a whole new generation of fans and inspiring bôa to return to the studio to record their first new music in over 20 years.
Now, with over 1 billion streams across their catalog, bôa — Jasmine Rodgers (vocals/guitar), Alex Caird (bass/guitar) and Lee Sullivan (drums) — made their triumphant return with Whiplash, their third official full-length album, released on October 18 2024, produced by Chris Zane (Jack Antonoff, Passion Pit, St. Lucia). The album’s title is multifaceted, referencing their personal highs and lows, but also our collective cultural unrest. Whiplash, however, chisels away at both — envisioning a community in pursuit of solace.
bôa originally formed in London in 1992 by Ed Herten (drums), Paul Turrell (keyboard/strings), Steve Rodgers (guitar/vocals), Alex Caird (bass guitar), Jasmine Rodgers (guitar/vocals), and Ben Henderson (guitar/saxophone). When Ed left the band in 1994, Lee Sullivan joined. They went on to release two studio albums, Twilight (2001) and Get There (2005).
