Anomalie

Nicolas Dupuis is never far from home. As Anomalie – the shape-shifting, electronic-leaning contemporary jazz production project he unveiled in 2016 – the Montréal-based artist has carved out his own niche in the music industry.  He combines his world-class talents as a composer, producer, and classically and jazz-trained keyboardist with an innovative electronic approach, drawing a great deal of inspiration from his upbringing in the Canadian metropolis.

Anomalie has channeled his musical upbringing (his mother, a piano teacher; his father, a host on Radio-Canada), formal schooling, and stage-seasoned chops into an impressive body of recorded music. His catalog features two companion EPs – ‘Métropole’ and ‘Métropole II’, a collaboration with prominent funk group Chromeo on ‘Bend the Rules’, and his long-form debut, ‘Galerie’.

With a unique genre fusion that spans jazz, electronic, hip-hop, funk, and sometimes even classical music, Anomalie has cultivated a diverse fanbase– a combination of the new jazz scene (Snarky Puppy, Thundercat, Louis Cole), the soulful beats scene (FKJ, Masego, Tom Misch), and the post dubstep electronic scene (Griz, Odesza, Opiuo).  The trailblazing project has garnered impressive co-signs from industry leaders like Questlove, Charlie Puth, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Shad, Snarky Puppy, Masego, and more.

On stage, Anomalie has cultivated a nuanced blend of electronic production, progressive jazz harmonies, and hip-hop rhythms with a 4-piece group, reinventing genres known for their fluid, expansive definitions.  The project has headlined multiple sold-out world tours throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and graced massive festival stages, ranging from prestigious jazz festivals like the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal to EDM mainstays such as Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, and Summer Camp, among others.  After extensive global touring, Anomalie’s deeply honed technical acumen with Ableton Live allows him to translate electronic sounds into a true live performance, with a setup that Ableton themselves have spotlighted for its groundbreaking approach.
