AMISTAT OPEN THEIR HEARTS WITH NEW EP WHAT WE ARE

March 31, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Today, the twin brother duo Amistat is excited to open their hearts with what we are, a new EP out today via Nettwerk. Akin to a dreamcatcher nabbing a dream, the band captures inspiration and beams it back to the world through songs. Exhibiting a heightened sense of empathy, the European-based duo of twin brothers Jan and Josef Prasil thread relatable emotions into the fabric of gentle indie folk anthems. Amistat’s what we are EP belongs to anyone who opens their heart to it.

Jan and Josef share, “I feel like this isn’t our music; it’s the people’s music. We simply channel it. In a way, we are the means to get this music to listeners. From there, they can use it in whatever way they need at the moment. We’re grateful for the opportunity to share our music, and we consider it a big responsibility. Whenever we feel inspired, we can create a song to bottle the magic. We go into the studio and only record one or two tracks at a time, which allows us to evoke different emotions. It’s a nice way to stay inspired.”

Throughout 2024, the brothers wrote and recorded what we are during intermittent sessions. This time around, they expanded the soundscape by implementing new musical elements such as the mandolin, embracing an inclination towards their folk roots.

We thought ‘what we are’ would be a nice title because this EP shows where and what we are right now,” Jan shares.

Fittingly, they began this chapter with “what we were.” Artfully sculpted melodies and steady strumming barely contain the overflow of emotion as a contemplative chorus echoes, “Is what we were still what we are?” “This EP is about letting go and healing from a relationship, especially this song,” Jan reveals. “In a relationship, you go through good and bad times. Sometimes, you reach a point where you ask yourself, ‘Are we still what we think we are? Is how we started off still the same thing?’ You must know when to let go and not hold on anymore, which is obviously the hardest part.”

In the end, Amistat truly makes music for the people.

What We Are is available on all digital streaming platforms here.
