November 4, 2022 BY Jason Currell

Alternative singer-songwriter, Gert Tabernerreleases emotional single “Rhythms” today on all platforms. It is the Frankfurt-born, Vancouver-based artist’s first release since signing to Nettwerk.

“‘Rhythms’ is a song that grapples with loss and not knowing what to do with yourself in the wake of it, hoping to move forward, but also feeling lost every step of the way,” says Gert. He continues, “It’s been a few years of near-complete radio silence, and this single feels like the right way to reintroduce myself.”

The upbeat “Rhythms” glides on airy guitar towards a stark realization underpinned by a head-nodding hook, “We never wanted to be just like our folks—have our hearts grow cold.”

Gert’s music is full of passion, emotion, and a rawness that makes you think about life. His vulnerability and ability to articulate his most tragic and heartbreaking experiences pull you into his world, leaving you a little sad, but with a tinge of hope for what’s to come.

There’s a lot more to come from Gert Taberner.

About Gert:

Gert Taberner unearths life’s most formative experiences and feelings under a glow of eloquent songcraft, unfiltered lyricism, robust instrumentation, and cinematic production. After generating tens of millions of streams with his debut Fallen EP in 2016, the Frankfurt-born and Vancouver-based singer, songwriter, and producer chronicles an often-unbelievable season of life on his upcoming music, speaking straight from the heart.

Life took a series of unexpected twists and turns. His father passed away from lung cancer in May 2020. A year later, his mother also faced a terminal cancer diagnosis, but Gert promised: “not to miss chemo treatments or anything.” Alongside his sister, he devoted himself entirely to his mom’s care 24/7 until she, unfortunately, succumbed to the disease in 2022.

“The process behind this record was hard, but it was really soothing,” he concludes. “It’s traumatically dark, but there’s also a certain lightness to accepting that things are out of your control. I’m trying to create a space for reflection. I just hope you know I was being as honest as I could be.”
