April 24, 2025 BY Emma Orland
Today, alternative folk artist/producer Rabbitology (Nat Timmerman) announces support for The Oh Hellos on their US tour this October, making stops in Fort Collins, Boulder, Denver, Chicago, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta, and Nashville. Last month, Rabbitology released “Preybirds (The Watched Version),” a rework of “Preybirds (Watcher Song)” off her recent EP, Living Ghost, featuring chamber pop artist Sparkbird. It was released with a visualizer animated by Nat herself, featuring 900 pieces of fan art created by fans of Rabbitology and Sparkbird, who were welcomed to design their own hare and bird, respectively. Speaking of the track, Rabbitology explains, “Sparkbird and I have been in parallel paths for quite some time, maybe even since I began releasing music. So, when I was writing “Preybirds,” originally a song to share two character’s perspectives, but couldn’t quite find the “watched” perspective, I knew that Stephan’s fantastic storytelling skills would help bring to life the other side of the story. This new version of Preybirds now ALSO explores the story of not only a Watcher, but the “Watched” as well, creating a story that twists and turns into a widening gyre of lore and dark chaos.”
According to Sparkbird, “Rabbitology sent me this track before its release and it quickly became one of my favorites. It felt almost sacrilegious scrutinizing it for places to insert myself. But I found myself drawn to the experience of the Watched character—the tragedy of repetition, and the sense of being caught in a cycle of their own mortal foolishness. I had no idea how Nat might react to my additions, and I was thrilled to learn that the Watched perspective was the subject they had originally wanted to explore in the song.”

Living Ghost is a “midwestern gothic” folktronica collection of 6 self-produced songs themed around various forms of stagnancy. Created from the confines of her dorm room at the University of Michigan, the EP tells a short story, an interpretation of her world from the perspective of someone who feels like a ghost in their own life. Through haunting storytelling, Rabbitology explores themes of the feminine experience and notions of mental instability, both fictional and biographical, that serve as proof of resilience against all odds.

Touching on her experience growing up in the church, her struggles with a panic disorder and paranoia, and the embracing of change, Living Ghost builds an immersive world for the souls who never quite fit in, who found themselves like ghosts, drifting between realms, never finding anywhere to settle.
As the sole producer of her work, Rabbitology transforms a narrative of passive observation into one of fierce reclamation, empowering their fans to rise beyond their constraints and assert their voices in the face of adversity.
