Alternative Duo FOREIGN AIR Announce New EP; Share “The Madness”

Enigmatic electro-indie/alternative duo Foreign Air are excited to announce their new EP, Why Don’t You Feel The Way I Do?, will be released on February 11, 2022. With Jesse Clasen in LA, then North Carolina, and Jacob Michael in DC, like the rest of the workforce, they collaborated through video-conferencing. “We were discussing our childhood, growing up in the ’90s,” says frontman Jesse. “We ended up putting on Donnie Darko, and that became our inspiration. In one scene, Donnie is wandering around town at night in a dream-like state, trying to figure out what he’s doing in school and in life. We tried to evoke the emotion of that movie in the songwriting process.” Says Jacob, “The new music feels like we shed a layer of skin. We have been treating each song as its own universe, creating our own world.”
Today, they share the dark, sweeping track, “The Madness,” that sounds like Nine Inch Nails was dropped into a blender with Glass Animals. It follows the glitchy single “Anything’s Possible” and the gothic anthem “Your Touch.”
Jesse and Jacob explain, “The Madness was written outside of Los Angeles with producer Danny Burke. The song is about embracing the feeling of being an outsider and not really feeling like you fit in with the rest of the world, especially in the social media age where it seems like everyone has an opinion about everything. The character in the song accepts their fate and sets off to live alone in a dystopian world. Socially at the time we were channeling a lot of Tom Holkenborg ( Junkie XL ) and Trent Reznor film scores and wanted to bring in some of those chaotic and industrial sound textures into the songs palette.”

Foreign Air dropped their debut album, Good Morning Stranger, in October of 2020. Before that, they released 10 singles, as well as the For The Light EP, starting with the glitchy, spectral “Free Animal,” which became an immediate hit. Nike snapped up the latter for an ad – and everyone from Samsung, Vodafone, Microsoft, to Showtime, ABC, and Vice soon followed. All told, Foreign Air’s music has been streamed more than 140 million times on Spotify and Apple, they have been featured on sites like Billboard, Grammy.com, and COLLIDE, and they have toured with notable acts like Misterwives, Bishop Briggs, Bleachers, and more.
