Alt-Pop Powerhouse MORGXN Returns With Daring New Single + Video “Modern Man”

May 19, 2023 BY Jason Currell

Nashville alt-pop powerhouse MORGXN releases daring new single and video “Modern Man.” The video features Nashville activist, drag queen, and MORGXN’s childhood classmate Vidalia Anne Gentry.

MORGXN poses a question: “What is a modern man?”

“I have often felt like the idea of “man” in society is so arbitrary and stoic and honestly toxic and dangerous. What is a “man” and what is it that I’m aspiring to be? And if society has a fixed definition … how I can explore that for myself? Sometimes I feel that the freedom to really be ME is wrapped in another person’s definition. With the song and video I was hoping to flip a trope and find ultimately an expression that is uniquely my own,” says MORGXN of the song and video.

With a captivating blend of artistry, storytelling, and cultural significance, the music video fearlessly tackles the pressing issue of LGBTQ+ rights and rigid constructs surrounding masculinity. The video challenges societal norms, encouraging MORGXN’s audience to recognize that a “modern man” can be whatever they want it to be.

Recently, MORGXN partnered with Together Collective and ‘anyone who has felt othered’ to join forces and stand up for LGBTQ+ youth across the country, but most importantly, for B Hayes, a teen who was turned away from attending prom for wearing a suit. MORGXN pioneered a group of other artists and activists (Brandi Carlile, Sara Bareilles, Jason Isbell, Lucius, Allison Russell, Busy Phillips, Margo Price, Butch Walker, Ben Folds, and more) to create a video of in support of B.

B’s Instagram post outlining what occurred sparked outrage across Nashville and the rest of the country. As a member of the Nashville LGBTQ+ community himself, alt-pop singer-songwriter MORGXN, wanted to show support for B and for teens across the country. Inside Edition ran a story on B and the star-studded video here.
