January 31, 2025 BY Emma Orland

Today, rising New Zealand-based singer-songwriter alayna has released a gorgeous new track titled ‘Blue’ on Nettwerk, in collaboration with Nashville-based musician and producer Mokita. A tender, glistening ballad, the song is a poignant message of love and hope, wrapped around a very human heart. Listen here and watch the lyric video below.

“I went to the studio and brought the song idea to MokitaI was there to write for an album, but I didn’t want to write about anything to do with me, I wanted to write about the world, “ alayna explained. “The song is about reminding us that there’s hope in a seemingly broken world. And that love is the only antidote and is a well that doesn’t run out.”

Fans of alayna will be pleased to hear that Blue’ is not the only new music on the cards for this year. “It’s a small taste of everything that is to come. It’s a celebration of collaboration, of softness, of strength, of determination, and mostly, hope. Of new things on the horizon.”

Blue’ is alayna’s first new material since the release of her passionately emotive 2023 debut album Self Portrait Of A Woman Unravelling – an exploration of the self, documented through musical styles ranging from folk and singer-songwriter to R&B and pop influences.

Her debut 2018 EP Sweet Soul amassed millions of streams with the single ‘Falling Autumn’ reached #8 on Spotify’s US Viral chart and got spins on BBC Radio 1. Alayna’s acclaimed second EP Tender followed in 2020, in which HillyDilly said she “has one of the best voices, and her delicate melodies are second-to-none… she continues to impress on each release.”

alayna’s debut full-length Self Portrait Of A Woman Unravelling saw her slowly transition from an R&B and soulful singer to a singer-songwriter where her lyrical skills have truly shone. Growing up listening to heavyweights such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, alayna’s songwriting depth can be attributed to these influences and the experiences that shaped her. The album includes ‘A World Without You’ and ‘If You Want My Love’, both reaching millions of streams on Spotify alone.
