“Aisha Badru sets her warm and inviting voice against an array of soft effects… As the dramatic tension builds, all that technology only enhances her songs’ sense of intimacy, pulling you closer until she might as well be whispering directly into your ear.” — NPR Music

“Aisha Badru’s vocals are slight but soulful, airy but powerful…she uses this distinctive alternative/indie sound to soul-stirring effect that is difficult to describe but impossible not to feel..” — Afropunk

“Explodes with passion and life.” — FACT

“‘Enough’ is notably more textured, a greater emphasis placed on electronics. It’s a boldness that’s perhaps intended to grab our attention so that the words have more impact.” — Atwood

Electro-folk singer and songwriter Aisha Badru returns with her Road to Self EP on June 7th, and today shares lead single “Enough,” a synth lullaby about embracing life’s ups and downs while developing an unwavering confidence in oneself.  Road to Self is the follow up to Badru’s debut album Pendulum, which saw fans connect to her raw vulnerability (as proven by the album’s 22 million streams) and critics melt under her work’s radiant intimacy.  Badru will join Allman Brown on tour starting May 2nd in Nashville, TN (all dates are below).

While the songs on Pendulum were born out of heartbreak, the Road to Self EP is all about self-love, and more specifically, Badru’s personal journey of learning to let go, evolve and recognize her own worth.  Teaming up once again with producer Chris Hutchison, Badru’s sound also continues to evolve as she incorporates more electronic elements, adding texture to her folk pop roots.

With a dynamic voice and delicate songcraft, Aisha Badru filled a void in both folk and pop with her independent 2015 EP, Vacancy. Its centerpiece “Waiting Around” soundtracked a viral Volkswagen South African campaign, figured prominently in an episode of Stitchers on Freeform, and generated over 11.3 million Spotify streams. Coveted playlists such as Your Favorite Coffeehouse, Morning Acoustic, Indie Acoustic, Feminist Friday, and more have touted her music, while Apple Music included her among Best of the Week.” She’s also garnered praise from the likes of NPR Music, Afropunk, Flaunt, Ones to Watch, and more.
