Afternoon Bike Ride’s tender spring Signs to Nettwerk, Announces ‘you are now listening to a tender spring’ LP
July 30, 2024 BY Bailey Vigliaturo
Nettwerk is thrilled to announce the signing of Montreal beatmaker/instrumentalist tender spring, who some may know as 1/3 of the Canadian indie band Afternoon Bike Ride. Today, tender spring announces his first Nettwerk album you are now listening to a tender spring, and shares the first portion of the record you are now listening to a tender spring (side a).
Born David Tanton, the multifaceted musician began releasing as tender spring in 2019. While he has released full lengths before—2020’s Staying In with Chris Mazuera and 2021’s Springtime, with friends—the upcoming LP brings tender spring himself to center stage.
“I’ve often been one to shift musical directions and create a new project, a new alias, whenever I’ve felt I had outgrown a sound,” tender spring admits via Instagram. “Each one of these projects holds a very special place in my heart, and is a time capsule of pieces of me through different stages of my little time here on earth.”
He continues: “I’ve decided to keep my new work under the name ‘tender spring’ because I’ve grown to realize that witnessing the full journey is just as important as the consumption of the music itself. Presentation and posturing are essential in an industry like this, but honesty to the process feels more vital to me now.
The 13-track you are now listening to a tender spring eludes simple classification, blending jazz, ambient, folk, bedroom pop, lofi and everything in between. Horns and brass come and go. Tape loops, door creaks, crickets, and live drums. It’s all organic, natural, and tender as can be. While the new LP is his most full “tender spring” body of work to date, he is nothing but grateful in crediting the featured artists (imagiro, Joseph Shabason, 9ICK, Rich & Jonas Cook).
“I’m so grateful to work with the people who inspire me the most on all of these upcoming songs. To every one of these sources of collaboration, inspiration, love and joy, and those who listen and take anything at all from what I’ve made: You have my whole heart.”
This fall, tender spring will hit the road with Canadian alt-RnB artist Sylo, in support of Sylo’s new EP dreamt that I was (Tanton produced on seven of the album’s eight tracks). Five of the six shows on the tour will feature tender spring on guitar and laptop. Stay tuned for more news from tender spring!
